The Wheeler House
Official Association Minutes

The mission of the Murfreesboro Historical Association, Inc. is to preserve and interpret the architectural and cultural heritage of the Town of Murfreesboro, North Carolina. In fulfilling this mission, the Association encourages and supports actively the acquisition, restoration, and rehabilitation of significant historic properties throughout the local areas as well as the revitalization of the Town’s older neighborhoods and central business district.

The Association collects, researches and preserves historical objects and artifacts that relate directly to the cultural values of the area. These objects, displayed in museum settings, form an educational resource through which their meaning can be made clear in historic context. They are offered to the public to illustrate realistically the broad patterns, themes, and trends that constitute Murfreesboro’s history.

By advocating for the preservation ethic, and espousing the need to maintain our heritage for cultural and aesthetic reasons, the Association strives foremost to promote stewardship and citizen responsibility for the care of our historic legacy. In so doing, we seek ultimately to make our community a better place in which to live.

Help to preserve and interpret Murfreesboro’s rich heritage by becoming a member of the Historical Association.

With your support, The Murfreesboro Historical Association will be able to continue its effort to make our District a special place and bring local history to interested people – both adults and children – through educational programs, scholarly publications, and engaging new exhibitions in our historic buildings.

As the many members of the Murfreesboro Historical Association already know, the work of historic preservation so often relies on a team effort. It is this specific characteristic that has made preservation a success story in our community. Please take time to look at all the events planned and supported by the Murfreesboro Historical Association, of which you can become a part.

We are pleased to offer an exciting new menu of membership opportunities to enable you to find the right level of involvement. We hope that you will join us in our effort to preserve the spirit of place that we call the Murfreesboro’s Historic District and enjoy marvelous company and social interaction at any of the various events we sponsor throughout the year.
