The founders of Historic Murfreesboro were the Murfrees who migrated to America from Ireland to achieve religious freedom. Richard Jordan Gatling, the inventor of the famous gun, was a native of nearby Maneys Neck, visited many European countries during his lifetime including England, France, and Germany. The Caribbean will be featured in our Christmas world tour due to Murfreesboros connection to Dr. Walter Reed, who spent many of his boyhood years here and John Hill Wheeler, native of Murfreesboro, who served as USs first Minister to Nicaragua. The African country of Liberia reflects the heritage of many Murfreesboro citizens and you will hear this story at the Wheeler House. Murfreesboros early churches and religious heritage will be portrayed at Chowan University --- the journey to The Holy Land. In 1825, the Marquis De Lafayette visited Historic Murfreesboro during his American tour. Holiday traditions of France will be enjoyed at the final stop, the Hertford Academy. What a sweet way to complete the holiday tour!
